So I got a chance to demo the DS-10. All parts are dual-osc, with all the same params (drums are actually missing two, but patches are still compatible between synths and drums.) You can specify the key and scale (with roughly 30 scales to pick from) for the Kaoss note entry mode, and you can pick any two non-standard parameters to automate in place of Peak/Cutoff. So like, oscillator wave, or EG init, or patch input values. Drums can be note-sequenced like the synths.
I didn't realize I'd be able to get such good drums out of this sick puppy, but the drum patches were far nicer than the synth patches I made. I wish I had recorded a clip to post.
I hope AQ goes for a Moog VA next.
Personal Injury
You know that part of flesh between the fingers -- the bit if squeezed will cause some kind of intense but dull pain? Well I was separating some frozen meat with a knife and...
... yeah, well I stabbed myself right in there, but it didn't feel like a stabbin'. It felt like a hammer came down.
Other Garbage
I seriously need to get writing some synth software. Long and ever ago, I had intended to write something for the DS, but the DS-10 pretty much covers it. The difference would be mine would support samples, recording and export. Maybe MIDI. You can't really do any of that meaningfully without homebrew though, so I can see why they left it out.
But it's not just for the DS. Aldrin needs a few synths that aren't covered by the ported Buzz machines nor by DSSI (these tend to suck/crash anyway... at least in Aldrin.)
Also, I think I should quit smoking. I tend to smoke twice as much as I think a person should (if they're smoking at all, yadda) and I think it's bad for me. Not so much in a health way, but the amount of nicotine I keep as a baseline just isn't good for my state of mind.
With that, I'm off for a puff.
